Learning a music instrument could take you anywhere between a few months to a few years on end. Prodigy level of artist could take as less as two weeks in learning to play a new instrument. With the right approach and guidance from the musicians circle you can build on your skill and creativity at a much quicker pace. Establishing a feedback channel to gain constructive criticism from other musicians and teachers will certainly help you understand the areas that need improvement to speed up your learning process. Getting consistent focused practice at the beginning of your learning trajectory is crucial for you to learn the instrument within the first 6 to 12 months just to get your basics right.
