Tascam is a professional audio division of the TEAC Corporation that was founded in 1971 and is headquartered in California, USA. TASCAM is known for establishing the home recording phenomenon with the establishment of "Project Studio" and inventing Portastudio, the first cassette-based multi-track home studio recorder. TASCAM also announced the first low-cost, mass-produced multitrack recorder using SimulSync designed to record musicians, tape machines and audio mixers for home recorders from the early 1970s to the mid-1990s. Since the early 2000s, TASCAM has been an early innovator in the field of video recording and audio accompaniment with the DR series recording platform. TASCAM recorders are used in everything from Star Wars to Bruce Springsteen, Alan Parsons to Spoons, and have earned a reputation for everything from the "Hottest Tech" to "Hall of Fame" status.
