Rane
RANE Corporation is a privately held company that was created and established in Washington State in 1981. The original proprietors previously worked together at Phase Linear Corporation, a high-end consumer electronics company, in middle management positions. With this background, they formed RANE Corporation, combining over 40 years of total audio knowledge. Based on their competence, the owners became distinct department heads. Because each department head had a unique owner's perspective on how to make it work, this organization generated an extremely robust structure.
Richard Long of Richard Long & Associates prompted RANE to enter the DJ mixer industry (RLA). Richard Long was a well-known sound designer for some of disco's biggest names. Richard approached RANE and requested that they use their proprietary technology to redesign his famous X3000 crossover. The X3000A was created specifically for Richard Long. They also collaborated on the Q5000 DJ equalizer. He encouraged RANE to explore the DJ mixer industry based on his successful connection with them. They did, and the MP24, which quickly became the industry standard at the time, was their first DJ mixer.
DJ mixing has come a long way in such a short amount of time. When RANE first started, they had no idea how big the world of music mixing would grow. Basic blending was popular in disco clubs in the 1970s and 1980s. Now, genres, styles, and procedures have multiplied to create an infinite number of possibilities. The mixer has evolved into a musical instrument and a vehicle for self-expression, rather than just a tool. DJ mixers have far beyond their original expectations in terms of applications. DJ mixers may someday have as many different styles as there are different sorts of guitars.
